IRAQ UPDATE: MAY 12, 2003 10pm/2pm EDT

Lisa Martens reported in to Doug Pritchard via satellite phone. Heavy
gunfire and a couple of bombswere audible during the conversation. Lisa said
it was much worse than usual, although some distance away.

Stewart Vriesinga attended a meeting of NGOs who do not participate in the
nightly U.S. Majors / NGO meeting which the team has attended several times.
A worker from CARE International reported that two of their warehouses have
been broken into and two of their vehicles have been stopped at gunpoint and
stolen. They have now hired armed guards for their warehouses. Others
reported frequent incidents of rape and of children being abducted on the
streets.

One NGO was bringing relief supplies to a Baghdad hospital and
found there were looters right in the hospital at the time. They postponed
their delivery to a more opportune time.

Vriesinga also talked with the shoeshine boys who hang out in the
neighbourhood. Hassan is dealing with a shrapnel wound on his leg which is
not healing and keeps opening up. He said that eleven year old Shayef was
arrested at the Palestine Hotel "for nothing."
