HEBRON: Urgent Action and Update
Christian Peacemaker Teams member, Greg Rollins (Surrey, BC), remains in a
holding cell near Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv. So far the Israeli High
Court has not ruled on the request for an injunction to block Rollins'
deportation. The Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz today quoted Israeli
immigration spokeswoman Orit Friedman, saying, "[Rollins] is in our custody
in the Ma'asiyahu prison and he will probably be flown out tomorrow."
IMMEDIATE ACTION: PLEASE E-MAIL, PHONE OR FAX ISRAELI MINISTER OF INTERIOR
AVRAHAM PORAZ to express your concerns about the impending deportation of
Greg Rollins and other peacemakers.
Members of Christian Peacemaker Teams are committed to confronting all
violence. We work to reduce violence through our physical
presence. Rollins and other CPTers accompany Palestinian school children
who must cross settler-controlled streets to get to school. Rollins has
also stood and talked with Israeli soldiers to deter Palestinian youth from
throwing stones at them.

Update, May 21, 2003
Two CPTers walking with a Palestinian woman today were given information
about where they could and could not go by Israeli soldiers at the Beit
Romano checkpoint. That information contradicts the restrictions ordered
Monday when soldiers searched the CPT apartment. The CPTers phoned the
military Commander and ask for written clarification of the orders. The
Commander's office told them that someone would call them back shortly, but
no-one did.
Despite instructions given by soldiers who searched CPT's office on Monday,
CPTers plan to continue their violence-reduction work. Tomorrow, May 22,
CPTers plan to visit elementary schools in Hebron where they have conducted
daily patrols since late 2002. Students and teachers at these schools have
experienced frequent harassment by Israeli settlers and soldiers.
CPTers in Hebron continue to experience and witness violence. Today, a
Hebron settler got out of his car and threatened a female CPTer. This same
settler then swerved his car at another CPTer. A Palestinian who was
visiting the team was threatened by two settlers carrying machine
guns. Israeli soldiers responded to each of these incidents and the
settlers moved away.
