HEBRON: Israeli settlers ordered to leave occupied apartment building
On Thursday 4 May the Israeli High Court ruled that the Israeli settlers,
who occupied the three-story Palestinian building close to the Avraham Avinu
settlement on 6 April 2006, have until 11:00 a.m. (08:00 GMT) on Friday 5
May to leave. After that the Israeli police will evict them. The settlers
had claimed that they had purchased the building legally. The Palestinian
homeowner denies that he sold it.
Members of the Christian Peacemaker Team in Hebron continue to watch
developments. They noted that by Friday morning some Israeli flags had been
removed from the apartments. They hoped this removal was a sign that
settlers would withdraw without violence.
See previous 12 April CPTnet release, "Israeli settlers seize another
Palestinian building," for further details on the occupied building.
