Markie's last letter from Hebron for this stint
January 29th, 2010
And it was so warm the almond trees started blooming.
We've also spent some time playing with kids. This one is name Annas; he lives in our neighborhood and really loves Paulette.
This past Sunday, Kathy and I went to church and I spent some time with Noura. This was what she looked like last year.
This is what she looked like this year.
She's standing in front of the bulletin board that has pictures of the congregation's members on it. Now there are about 5 people on it that either Israel wouldn't let in the country or says have to leave, because they were working with Palestinians. Noura's parents work for Worldvision. Kathy and Noura's parents wondered if they'll be allowed in next time they try to come in to do their work.
Kathy had a wonderful birthday in Hebron. The night before Laura and Sarah and their friend Ivano were there (Ivano took the picture.) In the front is Fathiyeh on the left and Sarah on the right and then in the middle it's Paulette on the left and Laura on the right and at the back is Nina on the left and Kathy on the right. Laura and I did a special birthday dance in honor of the occasion.
Zleekha, our neighbor had cooked a bunch of food with her nieces and nephews, so it was a real birthday feast!
And the next day we all went out for kanafe!

I've agreed to share my blog with my traveling companion and teammate, Markie Re'em. We're both flying home tomorrow morning. I was glad to get some time in with my friend Ya'alah before leaving. I think I needed a little transition time--and evidently a lot of sleep. I sort of feel like I'm doing my whole jet lag thing prior to my flight.

Hi Kids!
Kathy and I are in Jerusalem now with our friends, Ya'alah and Netanel and flying home tomorrow. We are going to have fish and roasted fennel to eat tonight for the special Shabbat dinner. It sounds yummy!
Another super thing: Right before she left Hebron, Kathy tried plugging in the old Averetec laptop again and it worked! So I get to share the photos I thought I lost after all!
It's been strangely warm his month in Hebron. A couple days were near 80 degrees! So it was nice to be going out to Al-Bweireh for the school accompaniment. Here's a picture of Johann and I out watching for the school kids.

It was so nice on the warm rocks I decided to take a sunbath.

I've also been eating a lot of yummy things like pomegranates and grape leaves. One day for lunch, Kathy ate a pomegranate that weighed one kilo almost all by herself!

And the kanafe man, when he heard it was Kathy's birthday, threw in some chocolate balls with the kanafe! (Kathy thought maybe that was a little too much sugar, but she appreciated the thought.)
So I guess this is the end of our adventures in Hebron for awhile. We are sad to be leaving our friends, but Kathy is going to be happy to see Michael again and I can hardly wait to enjoy the snow! Really! I really really mean that!
