HEBRON: Thanks from CPT Hebron
Dearest friends and supporters,
"As long as [peacemakers] look at resistance as performing individual acts of
heroism, there won't be many peacemakers who will survive the enormous
pressures put upon them. Without community, we will be quickly sucked back
into the dark world of needs and wounds, of violence and destruction, of evil
and death." Henri Nouwen
CPT Hebron is grateful for the outpouring of support we received over the
course of the past week in response to the arrest of two of our members for
intervening when Israeli soldiers were about to fire on a nonviolent
Palestinian demonstration.
The solidarity of our Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities witnessing on
our behalf in the courtroom struck deep into our souls. This distinct
support community, comprised of varied skin colors, varied languages, and
varied prayer styles bore witness to God's inclusive love. It is in this
solid community that we CPTers find witness of God's strength, love and
nearness. We thank you for your witness of love. We thank God for our
community.
We were very pleasantly amazed at how quickly the bail money was raised by
people digging within their own pockets outside the courtroom - thank you.
Additionally, thank you to all those who helped us contact Jonathan Kuttab,
our lawyer. Many thanks, specifically, to Helen and Deborah for their
presence beside us at the demonstration. Once again, thank you dear friends,
for your consistent support and prayers. We feel most wonderfully blessed by
you, for it is with your backing that we speak and act boldly.
