Burger King is Having Its Own Way
Burger King is having its Way

On Sunday, November 21st, the Christian Peacemaker Team delegation in
Hebron, the West Bank, discovered that the Burger King franchise located at
the Ma'ale Adumim settlement on conquered territory east of Jerusalem still
is serving burgers and "having its own way", despite a promise from Burger
King that it would be closed down.
American Muslims for Jerusalem and other human rights groups had protested
the Burger King presence at Ma'ale Adumin because the settlement had been
developed on land confiscated from its Palestinian owners. The
establishment of franchises in Jewish settlements further ligitimtizes the
existence of settlements.
The discovery raises critical questions, given the promise of the
close-down. At the very least, it seems the Burger King corporation cannot
control its franchises; at the very most, it appears that Burger King threw
a sop to the protestors, confident they would not keep tabs
on whether its' promise would be kept.
