CHICAGO: CPT ANNOUNCES DELEGATION TO THE MIDDLE EAST

Christian Peacemaker Teams is calling for participants in a peacemaker
delegation to Israel/Palestine July 21-August 3, 2000. Despite continuing
efforts at negotiations under the Oslo Accords, peace in the Middle East
remains as elusive as ever. Palestinians in the Occupied Territories are
still facing threats of home demolitions and land confiscations by Israeli
authorities as settlements expand. People on both sides of the conflict are
calling for a just and viable peace beyond what the current political
situation offers.

The July delegation will meet with Israeli and Palestinian peace and human
rights workers. Then the group will join the CPT Hebron team to document the
situation of Palestinian families in the Hebron area. CPT, a
violence-reduction project of Friends meetings and Brethren and Mennonite
congregations, has maintained a team of trained peacemakers in Hebron since
June, 1995.

CPT is a faith-based group that seeks participants who are interested in
international human rights work, commited to nonviolence, and willing to
participate in team worship and reflection. Delegations usually culminate
in a nonviolent public witness, in cooperation with Israeli and Palestinian
partners, that challenges structural violence. Delegates should have plans
to share about the trip upon return to their home communities and
congregations.

The cost of $1700 and covers roundtrip airfare from a designated U.S. or
Canadian city, all on-ground travel, two meals a day, simple accommodations,
and all honorariums and delegation fees. For more information or to apply,
contact CPT at the address below. Application deadline for the July
delegation is May 26, 2000.
