TORONTO: Christian Peacemakers Burn Death List at Colombian Consulate

In response to a possible plan by paramilitaries to kill a member of the
Christian Peacemaker Team in Colombia (See August 12 release) CPT supporters
in Toronto held a vigil in front of the office building where the Colombian
Consulate is located. Participants prayed and recited the Litany of
Resistance (See July 13 release, "Paso de Esperanza."--Litany and photos..)
A symbolic Death List was burned as they called for an end to all death
lists in Colombia.

The group delivered a letter to the Consul General of Colombia urging the
Colombian government to protect both nationals and internationals from
violence perpetrated by illegal armed groups in the area of Barrancabermeja
and throughout the country.

Over twenty persons took part, including CPTers Robin Buyers, Christine
Forand, Murray Lumley, Jim Loney and Bob Holmes. Members of the Toronto
Catholic Worker community and TASC (Toronto Action for Social Change), a
local grassroots justice organization, also participated.
