IRAQ UPDATE: 7:30 am/11:30 pm EST
As reported to Doug Pritchard
Betty Scholten reported to Doug Pritchard. The connection was poor. She
said that the team and delegation at the Al-Daar Hotel had a quieter night
than usual. However the team at the Al Wathba Water Treatment Plant had a
very difficult night. Bombing was much closer to them than it has been
before. Then in the middle of the bombing, a heavy windstorm in the area
blew down their tent and they had to take shelter in a nearby building.
Today the group will meet with the Iraq Peace Team (IPT), then meet for
worship,
orientation for the delegation, walk them around the neighbourhood, and cook
dinner. They will try to send email nightly from the Al-Daar and Al-Fanar
Hotels. The delegation was quite exhausted by their trip from Amman to
Baghdad. Over the next days the team will integrate the delegates into their
work, e.g., hospital and neighborhood visits, and that of the IPT.
Betty said that the delegation are a wonderful group and that the delegates
have already been through more of a war than the team has.
