CHICAGO/TORONTO: CPT announces 2004 Iraq delegations

Christian Peacemaker Teams invites applications for delegations scheduled to
Iraq, February 19-March 4, April 1-15, May 20-June 3, September 28-October
12 and November 17-December 1, 2004.

As Iraq continues to suffer under unstable and difficult conditions,
delegates will meet with representatives of nongovernmental organizations,
fledgling Iraqi civil society groups, the US military, and others to assess
the current situation. They will visit hospitals, schools, mosques, and
churches, and will talk with Iraqis whose loved ones were killed or
imprisoned under the former regime as well as those whose family members
are now detained by US forces.

Based primarily in Baghdad, the delegation may travel to other cities such
as Kerbala or Falluja. A nonviolent public witness will be planned as
appropriate.

Delegates should be prepared for the risks associated with travel in a
conflict zone. In addition, CPT is looking for participants with interest or
experience in international human rights work, commitment to nonviolent
action, and willingness to engage in daily team worship and relection. They
should be willing to prepare for the trip by becoming familiar with the
current situation in Iraq and to communicate their experiences to government
officials, media and local congregations and groups upon return.

Cost is $2500 US, which covers round trip airfare to Amman, Jordan from a
designated US or Canadian city, all on-ground travel, simple accommodations,
two meals a day, and all honorariums and delegation fees.

CPT is a faith-based group that seeks participants for all delegations who
are interested in human rights work, committed to nonviolence, and willing
to participate in team worship and reflection. Delegates should have plans
to share about the trip upon return to their home communities and
congregations.
