CHICAGO/TORONTO: CPT announces delegations to Colombia (revised schedule)

Christian Peacemaker Teams is urgently calling for participants in a
delegation to Colombia February 24-March 8, 2004. Later delegations are
scheduled for May 18-31, July 13-26, and September 21-October 4, 2004.
Rural communities throughout the Colombia are subject to attacks and
threats by armed groups that have resulted in the displacement of over two
million people in recent years. Leaders have been kidnapped, killed and
threatened. In the region where CPT's long-term team works, recent
incidents have left community members feeling vulnerable and afraid. CPT's
presence has been a factor in their decision to stay in their homes rather
than fleeing.

Participants in the CPT delegation will meet with representatives of
various organizations in Bogota and in the industrial city of
Barrancabermeja, where CPT's long-term team is based. They will gain an
understanding of the pressures on and the roles played by churches, human
rights groups, legal and illegal armed actors, and Colombian and
international authorities and interests. The delegates will then travel to
the countryside and increase CPT's presence among threatened communities.
Through creative expressions of nonviolent action, delegates will bring
encouragement to Colombians who work for peace.

CPT is a faith-based group that seeks participants who are interested in
human rights work, committed to nonviolence, and willing to participate in
team worship and reflection. Delegates should have plans to share about the
trip upon return to their home communities and congregations.

Cost is $1800 US, and covers round-trip airfare from a designated U.S. or
Canadian city, all in-country travel, two meals a day, simple
accommodations, and all honorariums and delegation fees.
