ARIZONA/SONORA BORDERLANDS: CPTers conduct second memorial prayer vigil
Sofia Beltran Galicia, twenty-one-years old from Mexico, died on June 6,
2004 from dehydration. Members of CPT Arizona conducted a memorial service
in the region east of Elfrida, Arizona, where she was found nearly dead.
She died in Tuscon after being evacuated for medical care. When possible,
team members will mark each death in the Douglas, Arizona region by
conducting a memorial prayer vigil.
CPTers read a Litany of Resistance to violence, asked for prayers for her
family, and poured water over the cross.

The United State's failed immigration policies are channeling migrants into
the most inhospitable desert areas. Although the the goal of these policies
is to deter migration, the result will be an increasing number of deaths as
the summer heat intensifies.
