AT-TUWANI, HEBRON DISTRICT: Israeli Soldiers, police, and civil
administration escort children to school
By Kim Lamberty
On Saturday, November 6, an enlarged group of Israeli soldiers, police,
and civil (military) administration officials began escorting children who
live in the village of Tuba to and from their school in At-Tuwani. The
five children and up to nine officers in three jeeps are taking the middle
road which winds behind the Ma'on settlement outpost. However, the
Israeli authorities are not permitting Palestinian adults to accompany the
children.
Settlers continue to harass the group of children and Israeli officials
accompanying them. On Saturday morning, police recorded conversations
with settlers who were shouting at the group, and photographed them. They
have said they will use the information in their investigation of the
settlers who have attacked Palestinians and international accompaniers in
the area.
The At-Tuwani community views the children's safe passage to school under
the new escort as a victory, since the middle road was previously closed
to all Palestinians. CPTers will continue to monitor the situation,
because the road is still not open to Palestinians other than the children
of Tuba walking to and from school.
