COLOMBIA POEM: The mountains of Colombia are crying out for Justice

by Chris Knestrick

[Knestrick was a member of the July Christian Peacemaker Team delegation to
Colombia.]

The Mountains of Colombia are crying out for Justice!
Can you hear them speaking?
"Where is my beauty?"
"Look past the death and you will see my life!"

The Mountains of Colombia are crying out for Justice!
Can you hear them speaking?
"Where have my campesinos gone?"
"You have been displaced to foreign land."
"My people come back to me!"

The Mountains are crying out for Justice!
Hear their cry!
"You multinationals take notice."
"My gold and resources belong to my people."
"My goods are not for your exploitation!"

The Mountains are crying out for Justice!
Hear their cry!
"When will my bounty bear harvest?"
"When will my plants bear fruit?"
"The United States has poisoned my soil!"

The Mountains are crying out for Justice!
Can you hear them Speaking?
"When will the violence stop?"
"The blood of my people will no longer water my lands!"
"The fire of guns will no longer destroy my crops!"

The Mountains of Colombia are crying out for Justice
Can you hear them?
Stop.
Listen.
