CHICAGO: CPT calls on peacemakers to join Christian Peace Witness for Iraq
in Washington, DC on 16 March 2007
On 16 March 2007, Christians opposed to the war in Iraq will gather at the
National Cathedral in Washington DC for worship and a candlelight procession
to the White House where they will vigil until midnight.
Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) is part the Christian Peace Witness for
Iraq (CPW)--an ecumenical group representing over two dozen
organizations-sponsoring the event. For further information see
http://peace.mennolink.org/resources/cpw/index.html.
Fliers for the event are available at
http://peace.mennolink.org/resources/cpw/cpw_invit_clr_7.pdf
CPT encourages its constituents to begin planning the trip and to bring two
people, one under and one over twenty-five years of age. Even better,
constituents could organize busloads from their churches. Drivers should
drop participants at the Washington National Cathedral at 6:00 p.m. and pick
them up around midnight near the White house. (These times may change, look
for the opening of the official website, www.ChristianPeaceWitness.org, in
the near future.)
CPW hopes that 10,000 Christians will participate in this witness. Those
who wish to assist the planners in making this event a success should
contact Susan Mark Landis. She writes, "If you are willing to pitch in and
help, please read all the materials we now have, watch for the opening of
the official website, www.ChristianPeaceWitness.org, and then let me know
how you'd like to help. It's great to have people say, 'I'll help!' but
better to hear, 'I have these gifts and will volunteer them in this specific
way.'" Contact her at 330-683-6844 or SusanML [at] MennoniteUSA [dot] org.
