AL-KHALIL (HEBRON): Protests and clashes erupt in Hebron 11-12 October.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on 11 October 2011, members of CPT’s Hebron team received a call telling them that the Israeli military would not allow teachers to pass through the gate at the side of the checkpoint 56 on Duboyya Street—which it had previously agreed to do—but had to pass through the metal detector.  Soldiers provided no justification for the change in policy.

Some of the children returned from the school seeking information as to why teachers were not in school and clashes at the checkpoint followed, which resulted in seven children being taken to the hospital.

On the 12 October, CPTers began the day at a protest outside Checkpoint 56 Israeli soldiers were still forcing teachers to enter through the checkpoint container, instead of the gate to the left as previously agreed upon.
At around 10:00 a.m., all protestors outside checkpoint 56 (including CPTers) walked up to Ein Sarah street to join another rally in support of the hunger strike by Palestinian Youth to support of Palestinian prisoners in Israel

After the rally CPTers walked back to Bab il Baledeyya along Old Al-Shalala street.   CPTers witnessed settler boys and Palestinians boys throwing rocks at each other from rooftops.

Eventually soldiers arrested four Palestinian boys, not the ones that CPTers witnessed throwing rocks.  No settlers were arrested.  Israeli soldiers also shot tear gas at Palestinian civilians walking through the area.
