AL-KHALIL (HEBRON): A week in photos 12-18 January 2016

One at a time

The camera catches the eyes of a young Palestinian woman, one among many waiting to get through the mosque checkpoint for Friday prayers.

Vulnerable location

Palestinian families living just this side of the wall of the Kiryat Arbat colony report frequent harassment by Israeli settlers. CPT has joined the International Solidarity Movement and the Ecumenical Accompaniment Project in monitoring the area more frequently.

Improvement or normalizing degradation?

An overhead chain-link fence was installed years ago to protect Palestinian shopkeepers and shoppers in Hebron’s Old City from debris thrown at them from above by Israeli settlers.

And now, new sturdy and more attractive replacement fencing has been installed for the same purpose. An improvement, or a clear example of “normalization” of Israeli oppression and dehumanization?

Holding it together

A fourteen year-old boy displays the pins that are holding his femur bone in position while it heals. He was shot in the leg by an Israeli soldier in late 2015.

Seven detained near Quitoun

An Israeli soldier detains one of seven Palestinian men near the Quitoun checkpoint. The Israeli army justified the detentions saying that live gunfire had been heard in the neighborhood. Palestinian residents, neighbors, and shopkeepers said they heard no no gunfire.

“Now you can go”

On their way home after an evening game of soccer, a group of Palestinians is ordered to wait for Jewish Israeli settlers to pass before they’re allowed to proceed.
