No respect for the living or dead

Pictured here: Israeli soldiers often walk through the Muslim graveyard that borders Shuhada Street and is across from their military base. Here they are seen during a Muslim funeral, walking around carelessly, smashing discarded glass bottles on the ground, and being generally disrespectful of the mourners and the service. Just last month Israeli authorities demolished several graveyards in East Jerusalem. Read more…

Friday Prayers

Pictured here: Israeli border police stopped a young man on his way to the Mosque for Friday prayers; they took his ID and forced him up against the wall where they patted him down, twisting his arm in the process. After all their violent force, the border police eventually let him go and pray at al-Ibrahimi Mosque. Read more..

Construction halted

Pictured here: On multiple occasions the Israeli Border Police have delayed Palestinian construction workers and denied passage to their vehicles at the Quiton checkpoint. This has interfered with the construction workers ability to complete vital drainage works in the Old City. Israel has also interfered with other construction taking place across the Old City.

Checkpoints in Winter

Pictured here: Palestinian children and teachers had to walk through a puddle of icy water at the Quiton checkpoint. When CPTers offered to squeegee the water away from the turnstile, the border police said, “lt’s not our problem”, and ordered the CPTers to move away. The temperature was 6 degrees centigrade.

Unexpected visitors

Pictured here: Today, Israeli soldiers unexpectedly escorted a group of non-settler Israeli families through the Old City. Because the locals were not prepared for this unscheduled intrusion, it both disrupted normal business operations and foot traffic. These “parades” through the Old City function as intimidation devices to remind the local Palestinian population and merchants, who they often harass, who holds the balance of power in H2, the area of Hebron that is administer by the Israeli military (IDF). Under the Cover of Night

Pictured here: At 12am CPT woke to the sound of loud voices in their street. On investigation, six Israeli soldiers were found to be constructing a barbed wire fence on the wall above the beautiful mural women and children painted last week. When asked by CPT what they were doing, soldiers stated that it was necessary to keep the settlers safe from Palestinians jumping the wall. Due to heavy rain soldiers left the area unable to complete their task, leaving behind barbed wire, and stealing a ladder.
