IRAQ REFLECTION: Visionaries

by Michele Naar-Obed

“We are surrounded by hostile neighbors.” “ They want to destroy everything that we build.” These are two sentiments we frequently hear expressed in the Kurdish Region of northern Iraq.
PRAYERS FOR PEACEMAKERS, Wed., May 07, 2008

PRAYERS FOR PEACEMAKERS, Wed., May 07, 2008

Pray for the Palestinian residents of the south Hebron hills. Israeli settlers have escalated their restriction and harassment of them. This week, settlers assaulted two Palestinians and two accompanying internationals, all of whom needed minor hospital treatment.

by Beth Pyles

This weekend, the Team went to Azadi Park, a spot of beauty in the heart of the city, all the more remarkable because it has been reclaimed (can land/space be resurrected? Redeemed, certainly) by the Kurds. It was previously a Ba'athist-only holding adjacent to one of Saddam Hussein's prisons where Kurds were routinely tortured. The prison is now a museum.

The following interchanges took place in southern Bolivar province 11-12 March at meetings between farming communities and Colombian governmental human rights workers. Also present were development, peace and human rights organizations, including the Organization of American States and Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT).
HEBRON URGENT ACTION: Israeli military raids Hebron orphanage sewing workshop.

At 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday 30 April, the Israeli military raided the Hebron Girls' Orphanage in the H1 area of Hebron. [In 1997 the Hebron Protocol (part of Oslo II), signed by the Israeli Government and the Palestinian Authority divided Hebron into two areas: H2 under Israeli military control and H1 under Palestinian control (civilian and security)].
