Colombia Delegation
"We, as women, do not give birth nor raise children for the war” -- slogan the Popular Women’s Organization (OFP) in Barrancabermeja, Colombia.
Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) invites you to travel to Colombia from July 14 to 27 to visit and support the Women’s Social Movement Against War and for Peace. The Women’s Movement, an inspiring coalition of 40 organizations, opposes the militarization of Colombia – including the presence of U.S. military bases in the country. Those bases intensify the exploitation of women and escalate the war. Meet with our sisters in Colombia who are offering proposals for peace rather than war, and learn how you can support their struggle. The delegation will also meet with social justice activists in Bogotá and Barrancabermeja (where the CPT team has been based since 2001).
“The movement is encouraging; we recognize it and many people can participate in its construction,” said Ana, regional coordinator of the Women’s Movement, “We continue to dream of a different Colombia where we may be able live and live with dignity.”
CPT-Colombia accompanies communities and organizations that are struggling non-violently to create peace with justice, and to resist economic violence and imperialism.
FUNDRAISING EXPECTATION: $1900 US or $2200 Cdn (covers roundtrip airfare from a designated U.S. or Canadian city. If traveling from another country, contact CPT office for details).
