TORONTO: Call for expressions of interest and nominations for Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) Toronto Finance and Administrative Assistant



CPT has an immediate opening for a half-time person to provide financial and administrative support for our office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Responsibilities, necessary qualities, experiences and skills are listed in the job description following. Compensation is a subsistence stipend based on need. This role may be combined with another half-time CPT position, but may also stand alone.

If chosen as the most promising applicant, such an individual will be invited to participate in a CPT delegation and month-long training and discernment process prior to finalizing appointment to this position.

JOB DESCRIPTION: TORONTO FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Position:
This is a half-time position to provide support for the financial and administrative needs of the CPT Canada office in Toronto.


Responsibilities:
1. Maintain accurate financial records for CPT Canada (twelve hrs/wk)

  • record donation information and send thank-you letters
  • arrange payment of all CPT stipends, reimbursements, and bills
  • prepare the regular reimbursement requests and reports for Mennonite Church Canada
  • track and report on fund-raising by CPT full-timers, reservists and delegates
  • prepare all financial reports and the draft of the annual CPT Canada budget
  • maintain CPT supporter database in concert with CPT Chicago office, and maintain Canada interest e-mail list


2. Provide support for CPT Toronto office activities (5 hrs/wk)

  • monitor CPT Canada e-mail and arrange responses
  • arrange responses to phone and personal inquiries received at Toronto office
  • handle incoming and outgoing mail
  • organize the regular mailings to CPT Canada donors and supporters
  • monitor stocks of Toronto office supplies and the terms of service contracts
  • other duties as assigned

3. Participate in CPT Support Team work, which involves caring for the whole “web” of CPT and the connections among all the projects and constituencies through Toronto office meetings, special projects, retreats, and spending two weeks on a field project site each year (3 hrs/wk).


The Finance and Administrative Assistant is a half-time position with the general expectation of twenty hours per week. The normal working hours of CPT are flexible but demanding. Weekend work and evening work may be required to organize and help with regular mailings or special meetings. Work hours may be expanded considerably during times of crisis. Time off should be negotiated after such intense events are completed. Compensation is a subsistence stipend based on need. The appointment will be for a period of three years.


Needed Qualities, Experience and Skills
(as demonstrated either in CPT work and/or through other references):

Christian

  • deep grounding in Christian faith, rooted in a worshiping community
  • commitment to the biblical and historic Christian understanding of peacemaking
  • familiarity with CPT's sponsoring denominations and agencies, or a willingness to grow in this area


Peacemaker

  • experience and/or willingness to participate in CPT work and actions in settings of lethal inter-group conflict
  • firm commitment to the practice of peacemaking through nonviolent direct action
  • experience in, and commitment to, dismantling racism and other oppressions


Team Member

  • demonstrated interpersonal and cross cultural skills; ability to listen and share with sensitivity, tact, humour and humility
  • demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships
  • ability to appropriately navigate needs for both openness and confidentiality
  • ability to take initiative and engage in good teamwork
  • communication skills including writing, public speaking, and maintaining relationships with people in many locations, using ever changing communications technology
  • awareness of self-care needs and ability to set limits in a demanding work environment


Position specific

  • English fluency essential. Fluency in French is an asset
  • legally able to work in Canada
  • accuracy in maintaining accounts and databases
  • experience in book-keeping or Quickbooks accounting software are assets
  • ability to maintain computer systems is an asset


Accountability:

Accountable to the Canada Administrative Coordinator through weekly check-ins and a regular review every eighteen months.
