AT-TUWANI: Video posted of soldiers arresting Palestinian peace activist and saying Israelis should kill children in Gaza
CPT-Tuwani has released a video on YouTube showing an incident of Israeli army harassment in the South Hebron Hills village of Mufaqara. (See 12 February 2009 CPTnet release, “AT-TUWANI: Soldiers kill Palestinian migrant worker, increase harassment of villagers in South Hebron Hills,” http://www.cpt.org/cptnet/2009/02/12/tuwani-soldiers-kill-palestinian-migrant-worker-increase-harassment-villagers-sout.)
The video documents Israeli soldiers arresting a prominent practitioner of nonviolence in the region for having Israeli plates on his van. When challenged on the arrest by a CPTer, one of the soldiers asks, “What about the people in the South killed by rockets from Gaza?” The CPTer responds, “I think that’s very bad. I also think the 1300 people killed in Gaza is very bad as well, especially the four or five-hundred children.” The soldier replies that the children killed in Gaza “will be terrorists in about twenty years anyway.” The CPTer then says, “So you can kill them when they are babies and then…” “Yeah, we should,” the soldier cuts in.
The video also documents the Palestinian activist refusing to drive the van to the checkpoint, so the soldiers cannot shoot at the van and then claim the Palestinian tried to escape from them. It is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrVf9cLyWm0.
