Work History
- Jesuit Volunteer Corps: East, 1983-1986; volunteered in Boston one year at community center/alternative high school; and worked two years on JVC:East staff recruiting, placing, and training volunteers; fundraising and administration of the 80 volunteer program
- Woodrock, Inc., 1986-1991; worked as youth counselor in low income, multi-racial section of Philadelphia; group and individual work with 10 to 18 year olds focused on culture, decision making, conflict resolution
- Kensington Joint Action Council, 1991-1996; worked as Executive Director of multi-racial, multi-lingual non-profit that organized community members to fight for better living conditions in North Philadelphia; campaigns focused on economic and community development.
- Centro de Encuentros y Dialogos, worked for five months in 1997 in Cuernavaca, Mexico supporting budding community efforts to create child care centers, nutrition programs, and environmental projects; also developed fundraising training manual
- House of Grace Catholic Worker, 1997-2000; lived and worked in Catholic Worker community in Philadelphia that ran free health clinic; offered hospitality to homeless women, men and families; organized different nonviolent efforts to resist different forms of violence; developed community gardens; published newsletter.
- Taller Puertorriqueno, part-time 1997-2000; grant writing and development for $600,000/year Latino cultural education program
- Silk Hope Catholic Worker, 2000-2002; lived and worked with Catholic Worker community in rural North Carolina that offered hospitality to homeless women and families; managed large organic garden and organized different nonviolent efforts to resist different forms of violence and war; published newsletter
- Christian Peacemaker Teams, periodically from 2000 to present; worked for different periods (usually 3-4 months each) with CPT violence reduction projects in conflict zones in Chiapas, Mexico and Barrancabermeja, Colombia where CPT accompanies displaced communities and supports nonviolent efforts of threatened communities and organizations.
- Amistad Catholic Worker, 2004 to 2007; lived and worked in urban Christian community that offers shelter to homeless and meals 5 days a week; organizes organic community gardens; organizes vigils and public education to stop violence and war; involved in community organizing; publishes newsletter
- New Haven/LeÏŒn Sister City Project, 2007 to present; Program Director, organize delegations and internships in Nicaragua; work with Board on finance, fundraising, program development; organize efforts in New Haven to support social justice in Nicaragua.
