Dear The Body Shop,
I encourage you to live up to your stated values and take action now. The community of Las Pavas, or ASOCAB, needs to return to its lands. As a recent Body Shop commission that investigated the situation stated, there are significant environmental damages to the area around Las Pavas because of Daabons palm plantations. The damage includes the destruction of rivers and lakes and other bodies of water which are being polluted by the runoff of chemicals from the palm plantations. Also, Daabon has clear cut the community forest, an area preserved for hunting and wildlife preservation.
I want to see The Body Shop publicly call for Daabon to return the land to the community of Las Pavas, or ASOCAB to pay reparations for damage to the community, and to repair the environmental damage to the area. I am aware that Daabon may not agree to this, in which case The Body Shop must seek other suppliers and push to have Daabon removed from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
I truly hope that The Body Shop will take action soon and live up to its stated values of respect for human rights and the protection of the planet.
