Volunteer from CAME accompanying asylum seekers to tent.

Please pray for the individuals and families who are making the dangerous migration through Mexico to the U.S. Border. May they be safe from those who would exploit them along the way and may they remain together in God’s loving care as they seek entry into the United States.

At the Agua Prieta/Douglas port of entry, the Centro de Atención al Migrante Exodus (CAME) takes on the role of assisting migrants, listing them by order of arrival for crossing over the border to apply for asylum. It provides food, clothing, and shelter for up to 44 people at a time and cycles people to a tent right next to the barrier wall by the port of entry as their turn arrives. Local volunteers, including Christian Peacemaker Team reservists, provide accompaniment for those in the tent as they walk back and forth to the nearby Centro de Recursos para Migrantes for food, bathrooms, showers, and much needed respite.

Migrants coming to this border are driven northward by violence from gangs and organized crime, repression from police and militaries, and hunger and poverty caused by climate disruption and neoliberal trade agreements. They are our brothers and sisters, strong and resilient, on a journey to save their lives and with the hope for a better future. For their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, let us pray.

Eight years of Violence, Discrimination, Segregation, and Exclusion

On the eighth anniversary of the EU-Turkey Statement, we denounce Turkey and EU states’ consistent failure to uphold their international obligations with regard to migrants and refugees, and strengthen our joint commitment to challenge all official and unofficial policies that lead to the discrimination, segregation, and ultimately exclusion of migrants.
